TUBE BUNDLE CLEANING SYSTEM

  • Overview:

The exhaust steam from the LP turbine enters heat exchangers after going through the outlet duct. Heat exchangers of the air cooled condenser type are generally cooled by the airflow generated by fans and as a result, the inside steam converts into liquid. A vast volume of air goes through these tube bundles and gradually, particles and dust from the environment stick to the surfaces. The solids create a thermal resistant layer and if not removed, they can lead to chemical corrosion and decrease the overall performance of the main cooling system.

The conventional solution to avoid this and help the power plant maintain its capacity is to clean the tube bundles on a regular basis. Shorter intervals of cleaning are required for regions that are more prone to dust, especially in warm seasons that power plants need more thermal load.

Accordingly, a separate system comprising a pump and a water spray jet is designed based on the geometry and height of the tower and other related considerations.

The tube bundle cleaning system has different parts including:

  •
  • Cleaning rig
  • High-pressure cleaning water pump package
  • Flexible valves fittings of the water distribution system
  • Fixed water distribution system on ACC
  • Equipment related to the cleaning rig such as sprays, rails, etc.

The tube bundle cleaning system is able to clean and descale large surfaces of condensers using high-pressure water. The system is a piece of essential equipment for any steam power plant for ensuring the optimal performance of air condensers.
