The collection of equipment used for drilling including mast, motor, pump, and the fluid tank is called a rig. The rig can be moved from one place to another. The equipment is used to drill wells on land or offshore.  

Types of rigs

Simply speaking, the rig is comprised of a column equipped with steel cables and a number of pulleys that are used to insert tools into the well and take tools and other materials out.

• Land Rigs

• Conventional (or standard) rig: This type of rig is constructed at the time and place of drilling and cannot be moved
• Mobile rigs: These rigs have two main subcategories:
• Jack Knife: Components of this rig are modular. Drilling on land is often done by this rig.
• Portable Mast: This device is mounted on a trailer and arrives at the place of the well before being opened by hydraulic pumps like an antenna. This rig is mainly used to drill shallow wells or workover
